AMBUCS supporter nominated for U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame

Jean Driscoll, a celebrated wheel chair athlete and a longtime supporter of the Greater Champaign County (GCC), IL chapter of AMBUCS, is currently being considered for induction into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame.
Driscoll, who previously served as a keynote speaker at an AMBUCS National Conference, has spent her career pursuing greatness as an athlete and also helping other individuals with disabilities realize their potential.
She competed in four Paralympic Games as a wheelchair racer and won 12 Paralympic medals, including five golds. Her athletic accomplishments include more victories in the Boston Marathon (seven in a row) than any person in its 100 year history. She still owns the world record in the 10,000 meter track event as well as the 10k and marathon road racing distances.
Born with Spinda Bifida, Driscoll began racing in high school and later competed as a student-athlete at the University of Illinois, where she also served as an adivsor at the Student Rehabilitation Center.
She has been recognized for her community service efforts by having a pavilion dedicated to her at AMBUCS Park in Urbana, IL, which she considers one of her highest honors.
Jean was chosen as a finalist for the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame by a 10-person nominating committee consisting of athletes, media, historians and USOC representatives. Right now, fans have a chance to vote online to determine the final inductees.
